Orlando di Lasso’s Lagrime di San Pietro is a haunting Renaissance choral work reflecting on the grief of St Peter after his denial of Christ. Full of dramatic power and musical symbolism, Lasso’s work is moving in its direct, almost austere simplicity. The Reid Consort, directed by Cole Bendall, present a rare Scottish performance of this epic masterpiece of madrigals.
Orlando di Lasso - Lagrime di San Pietro (The Tears of St Peter)
This concert runs without interval and lasts approximately 80 minutes.
For the French composer, Frank Martin, faith was innately personal. No greater sign of this is seen than his Mass for Double Choir, written in 1922 but not premiered until 1963. Pulsing, flowing melodies contrast with heartfelt directness in this moving and virtuosic sacred work. Contrasted with striking works by Stravinsky, Leighton and Joanna Gill, the concert is the perfect way to close the Reid Consort’s fourth season.
Kenneth Leighton - Laudate Pueri
Kerry Andrew - O nata lux
Igor Stravinsky - Tres sacrae cantiones
Joanna Gill - Unfailing Love
Frank Martin - Mass for Double Choir
This concert includes interval and lasts approximately 2 hours (including interval).
